The Order of the Phoenix

The description for this week's challenge was "The Order of the Phoenix (Tonks, Moody, Lupin, et al. One or all, your choice!)" So I decided to draw the Order members who arrived at the Department of Mysteries in book 5, minus Sirius, who has already been drawn (see 2 weeks back). We'll pretend he's already off dueling with his cousin Belatrix.

I have other things I should probably post instead of this, but I was having too much fun with this one, so I thought I'd post it. Also, it went pretty fast because I had already designed some of these characters for the Harry Potter Alliance compilation cover I illustrated.

Okay, next week we'll take a breather from the Harry Potter drawing challenge. That way I can post a small GROUP of them the week after! ;)

Wormtail, Dobby Vs. Kreature!

Here are the next two characters from the Harry Potter Drawing Challenge I am undertaking. These were some action packed excerpts! Poor Wormtail is about to sacrifice his hand to help bring back Lord Voldemort, and Dobby and Kreature are going at it! I had to look up the scene where these two house elves duke it out, which allowed me to go into greater detail with their costumes.

There's eight more characters to go, though I might sprinkle in some other work I've been doing here and there. Then it will be on to another drawing challenge, which I have already picked out!

Sirius Black

I'm working on some new projects, but until those are ready to share, here is the next drawing in the series of Harry Potter character drawings.

I am (obviously!) having a lot of fun working on these. That Mary Grand Pre' sure lucked out, getting to illustrate all seven US editions of the Harry Potter books. Talk about an illustrator's dream job!

Cho Chang & Cedric Diggory

Well, as promised, here is the next drawing in the series of Harry Potter character drawings I am doing.

Hopefully I'll be able to post more than one at a time, but I didn't have much spare time this week. I was playing catch-up after being out of town last week, to give lectures at The Center For Cartoon Studies and The Norman Rockwell Museum. Then this weekend I was in Philadelphia for my grandmother's memorial service. Life is busy these days, but it's better than having nothing to do!

Harry Potter Character Vignettes

Last July, two weeks before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out, my cartoonist friend Matthew Reidsma had the idea to draw one character from Harry Potter per day, until the book was released. He put up a master list on his LiveJournal but unfortunately, at the time, I wasn't able to participate because I had too many deadlines to meet.

So, even though I'm not playing within the posted timeframe, I thought I'd give it a go, as it is fun to draw these characters, and I'm in need of a small illustration challenge these days. This will keep the illustration parts of my brain in action while I am paying the bills with teaching work and spending my "spare time" on my comics.

So for now, here are the first five, which I had already completed this Fall. Next week I'll put up a new batch!
